In its November crop report, USDA estimated a 2023-24 U.S. cotton crop of 13.09 million bales.
Upland production was estimated at 12.74 million bales and extra-long staple production at 354,000 bales.
Harvested area was an estimated 8.02 million acres, implying a non-harvested area of about 2.21 million acres. The resulting abandonment rate is about 21.61%. The national average yield per harvested acre was estimated to be about 783 pounds, 75 pounds less than the five-year average.
