Verticillium Wilt is a soil born fungus which lives in the soil and infects the cotton plant through the roots and basically clogs the vascular system of the plant as it develops. Jason Woodward, Extension Plant Pathologist for the Texas Agri-life Extension Service says this disease was a major problem in the 1970s and 1980s and it has returned over the last several years.
